In our Oak Leaves class we maintain a lower teacher to child ratio
than our Maples class so that we may provide that little bit of extra
one on one time with each child. As teachers we see ourselves
as faciltators of learning. We provide a self-directed environment
that allows children to become deeply involved in their learning.
Our curriculum is developed through a thematic webbing approach
and is implemented with a strong focus on building languge and
early literacy skills.
As Early Childhood Educators, we believe that developing positive
socialization skills is essential for all young children. We encourage
freedom of expression, self-direction and using our words to
solve problems. By doing these things we are helping our young
students to develop appropriate social perceptions and the ability
to interact positively with others.

As the new school year begins, we have great things planned for our junior preschool classroom! September will be spent getting to know each other by sharing names, talking about out families, communicating our likes and learning about our bodies and emotions. And October brings with it a harvest theme for the oak leaves!
Socially, we are focusing predominantly on using our words; being safe; and independently carrying out basic tasks, such as putting materials away when finished, undressing and dressing when going to the bathroom and washing hands. THis fall, our academic calendar features work on letters and phonetics, counting (in English, German and Spanish) and number recognition, basic sign language, sensory exploration and simple science experiments.
We are super excited for what the coming months hold in our classroom. Please feel free to contact us at any time with questions or comments!
Thank you!

• Since the majority of our class is still in various stages of potty training, we request that the children have at least one change of clothes to be kept in their cubby and a week's worth of pull-ups/diapers.
• Children are more than welcome to bring a comfort item for rest time if they would like.
• Friday is our sharing day. Children may bring one item from home to share with their friends at circle time. Photographs, books, stuffed animals, items from nature or special souvenirs are all wonderful items for sharing time.
• Please check your family file outside our classroom door for important reminders, curriculum, and special projects from your child. Our bulletin board will also provide you with important monthly information.
• With the cold winder coming we are still having a little outside time at least once per day so please remember to bring a warm jacket for your child every day. Hats, gloves, and scarves would also be appreciated for days when extra bundling is needed!
